Shing Yau Kai

  

      Shing Yau Kai is a piano performance major in Weber State University under the direction of Dr. Ralph van der Beek.. He started the piano at the age of 6, and has been loving music for his whole life. Shing Yau started his college in Hawai’I beginning with a Math degree. Playing for the Concert Choir in BYU-Hawai’I, he found his passion towards music. He then transferred to Weber State pursuing his music degree. His previous teachers included Ching Wan Cheng, Dr. Francis Mo, Stacey McCarrey and Dr. Scott McCarrey. He was awarded in Utah State Fair Competition and UMTA Concerto Competition. In Spring 2008, he performed in the Weber State Concerto Night with the Weber State Orchestra. He worked with Rieko Aizawa (from the Amelia Trio), Catherine Rollin, Nelita True and Dr. Regina Yeh in a master class setting. Shing Yau presented in the Utah Music Teacher Association Conference with the pedagogy class in 2008. Pedagogy concepts fascinated him. Summer is his favorite season. His favorite place is the beach. In his spare time, he enjoys water activities such as swimming, canoe  pushing, long boarding, martial art, going to music concerts, and traveling.

 

  

Shing Yau's Interview: (Interviewed by Byron)

Q. Good morning, Shing Yau! So what is your feel about making the Treblemakers website?
A. I have lots of fun! I get to know more about everybody in the club. Also, I get to learn the history of the Treblemakers club, which fascinated me! I now have lots of respect to the club and I love the Club.

Q. What is your life goal?
A. I want to dedicate my life to serve people and make others happy.

Q. Why do you study music?
A. Mmm.....music changes my life. It comforts me, and gives me a sense of achievement.

Q. What music do you enjoy?
A. I like the music of Mozart, Chopin and Rachmaninoff. My favorite piece is Rachmaninoff piano concerto no.3.
