Outcome: Motion Carried
Information Items
3. Community Involvement Center changing its name - Leah
Murray for Brenda Kowalewski
"Center for Community Engaged Learning" - effective July 1,
2013
DISCUSSION
Wanted a better name for the center to capture all aspects of what the center
does.
Focus groups were held during fall semester with students, faculty, staff and
community partners.
They discussed words used to describe service and gave suggestions.
This title is what came about in the discussions.
The name will describe the center better on what services it offers.
4. "Going Google" Email Migration Effort - Ty Naylor, IT
Communication, Events & Training Coordinator, Bret Ellis, Vice President, IT
DISSCUSSION
Testing group started Dec 14 to gather feedback for the system.
Launch date, March 1, 5 pm - Give staff and faculty spring break to learn the
new system.
Have been gathering feedback to see how things are going.
Online videos, training, technicians to touch base with employees during
February and March.
Training before and after system is launched.
Can use both business and personal accounts and switch back and forth.
Will Google cloud come with this application?
Google drive, Google plus, for storage of data, will be available.
How will training be accomplished?
Manuals and Tutorials will be available on the web as well as live classes.
Most things will migrate from Groupwise to Google. Some things will not migrate.
Information came out in the Signpost. The Weber Web page will be utilized for
notification.
Technians in your area will be available for questions.
Groupwise will be available for getting old information for at least two months.
No new mail will come in to Groupwise - new mail will forward to Google.
5. Centralized Support of Campus Classrooms - Bret Ellis,
Vice President, IT and Shelly Belflower, Director Academic Technologies
DISCUSSION
Social Sciences and Education have been assisting in classroom support during
the evenings.
Update classrooms on equipment that the college may not have funding for.
IT fund 3 - 5 rooms per each college on electronic equipment and provide the
support for those rooms.
Get the right equipment in the room that needs it. Computer, projectors, smart
boards that will meet the needs of that department.
Meeting with the Deans of colleges to find out what rooms need the equipment and
what equipment is needed.
Is it the long-term goal to have IT control all classroom technology? Some would
like this, but others do not.
Computer Technology Administrator( CTA) from college of Social & Behavioral
Sciences emailed all faculty and staff who to call at what time of day or
evening in case computer equipment had problems.
For classes that IT had responsibility for, Computing Support Help Desk would be
called if any equipment went down.
Action Items
6. Faculty Ombudsman Charter Review - Brian Rague, Chair,
Faculty Senate
DISCUSSION
Spring 2012 - It was approved by Faculty Senate that a Faculty Ombudsman
position would be created for WSU.
The position was advertised during March 2012.
April 2012 - applications were screened by committee and Kathryn MacKay was
chosen for the position of Ombudsman.
Kathryn attended conference to research what ombudsman responsibilities are in
order to create a charter for WSU.
Fall 2012 - Colleen Packer, Brian Rague, Rich Hill, Barry Gomberg, WSU Human
Resources and Kathryn sat down to put the charter together to govern the office
of ombudsman.
This document is the result of those discussions and research.
Why was a tenured faculty member selected for this position?
This could result in a conflict of interest if the ombuds and faculty are in the
same department and college.
Not allowed to be on committees within the college while serving as ombuds.
Conflict of interest can happen in any chain of command.
What about an Emeritus faculty or some other independent person for this
position?
Have a primary and an alternate when this scenario might happen? This would
require additional funding.
Emeritus are not always available when needed.
What about an outside independent for this position?
Want to add this to PPM at a later date.
Voluntary, non legal, non binding, informal way to facilitate conflicts.
Role is simple, the implementation is challenging.
Go through another conflict resolution channel available on campus.
Motion - Brent Horn moved to approve the Faculty Ombudsman Charter.
Second - Michele Paustenbaugh
Outcome - motion carried with one nay and one abstention.
7. Environmental Issues Committee Vacancy

Rebekah Dickenson as a committee member.
Motion: Brian Rague moved to accept the appointment of Shane
Perry to the Environmental Issues Committee.
