Course description (exactly as it will appear in the catalog, including prerequisites):
PEP 3510 - Exercise
Physiology
(3) F, Sp
A study of various physiological and environmental factors which affect
performance of exercise and sport during acute exercise and physiological
adaptations to chronic exercise. Prerequisite: HTHS 1110 and HTHS 1111 or ZOOL
2200 .
Justification for the new course or for changes to an existing course. (Note: Justification should emphasize academic rationale for the change or new course. This is particularly important for courses requesting upper-division status.)
This change in prerequisite incorporates both parts of the Biomedical Core Sequence (HTHS LS 1110- 4 hr and HTHS 1111-4 hr) and eliminates Human Biology (ZOOL LS 1020-3 hr)as one of the current three options. Knowledge of some pertinent body systems is not covered until the second biomedical core course. Human Biology does not adequately prepare students for level of knowledge expected for PEP 3510.
