WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS
       Pop Psychology:  This first assignment is a paper and presentation addressing the therapeutic nature and evaluation of a popular self-help book (e.g., The Secret, Five Love Languages).  Details about how to identify the key therapeutic assumptions and procedures for a rigorous evidence-based evaluation of those assumptions are discussed in the handout.
 

      Exploring what Psychologists Do:  This second assignment is a paper and presentation addressing the background, training, and responsibilities of a psychologist. You will research a particularly specialty in psychology and then interview a psychologist who is working in the area. The results of your research and interview will be presented in class and written up.

      APA Paper:  This assignment involves writing up the data on students' knowledge about psychology and their belief in the Psychology as a science.
 

PRESENTATIONS/DISCUSSIONS
      Psychology as a Science?  Informal discussion of answers to questions about psychology as a science.

      Pop Psychology:  Formal group presentation of the the critique of popular self-help books. 

      Exploring what Psychologists Do:  Informal discussion of the details of students' paper prepared on the topic.

     Stanovich Presentation: Formal group presentation of one chapter from Stanovich's How to Think Straight about Psychology .

     Research Review:  Informal discussion of answers to questions about Amsel, Baird & Ashley (2011) and Thompson & Zamboanga (2004) which we will be evaluating for our research project.

       Ethics Scenarios:  Informal discussion of reactions of ethics scenarios.
