Two Drummers

"Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love, that is the soul of genius." ~Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

"Simplicity is the final achievement. After one has played a vast quantity of notes and more notes, it is simplicity that emerges as the crowning reward of art." ~Frederic Chopin

Performance Sound Clip

The following are two recordings from my Junior Recital on April 25th, 2008.

Brahms, Intermezzo Op.117, No. 1, 2 3

Program Notes: Johannes Brahms held onto the great traditional musical forms in his compositions. Using the old forms with lots of Classical influence, Brahms added his own new spirit. He loved to travel and enjoy the beauty of nature in life. When traveling however, he hated writing letters so he sent postcards instead. Once he sent a postcard of two short lines with the message that a 16 page letter would follow shortly. Yet it never was written. His friends said he had the heart of a child, which makes sense considering he loved children and pets. In fact the first intermezzo of Op.117 includes a short line from a lullaby for a child on the page above the music. (Jane Stuart Smith and Betty Carlson)

Porgy and Bess, Gershwin duet

Program Notes: This piece is performed by myself and Alyson Robinett.  It is an arrangement of the songs from the show Porgy and Bess.  I believe it has some of Gershwin's finest melodies.  Hope you enjoy this very lively piece.  We had lots of fun learning and performing it!
