Philosophy:

My "teaching philosophy" is not much different from my "life philosophy". Both are based off a need for balance. In my studio I strive to maintain a balance between all aspects of musical education. This includes: ear training, sight-reading, theory, technique, composition, and performance. In addition, I strive to share with students the joy that music can bring into their lives.

Administrative Costs

Other Expenses Include:

Music- The cost of music for the student is added to the monthly bill.

Events- The cost for any special concerts, recitals, festivals, or conferences the student chooses to participate in will be added to the monthly bill.

Attendance and Missed Lessons:

There may be times when I will need to make up a lesson due to personal conflicts. I will arrange these make-up lessons on an individual basis. However, if you are unable to make your regular lesson for any reason, you must choose to trade your lesson with another student off the "swap" list, or you will have to pay for the missed lesson. This is due to the challenge of trying to reschedule students on an individual basis. In either situation, you must call and give me 24 hours of notice.

Performance Expectations:

At the end of each semester there will be a studio recital. Participation is required in these recitals in order to continue study in my studio the next semester. Any additional festivals or competitions will be discussed on an individual basis.

Some Additional Information:

It is absolutely essential that a student has a good instrument to practice on at home. The student must have an acoustic piano to practice on that is tuned at least one time per year.

Each student must come prepared weekly with a binder with copies of my "Studio Assignment Sheets" for me to write on in the lesson.

It is critical to arrange a set practice time every day to make sure the student is consistently accomplishing his/her practice goals. Be sure to mark his/her practice time in the chart provided on the assignment sheet.

Daily practice requirements (5 days a week):

Beginner- 15-30 minutes

Early Intermediate- 30-45 minutes

Late Intermediate- 45-60 minutes

Advanced- 60-180 minutes

We will determine your exact practice level at your first lesson.

Withdrawal:

If a student wishes to discontinue piano study, it is only appropriate to withdraw from this studio at the end of a semester. I must receive notification at least two weeks prior to the final lesson. If a student withdraws during a semester or fails to give two weeks notice at the end of the semester, a $25.00 fee will be assessed.

Final Thoughts:

I’m looking forward to teaching your child and hope he/she feels excited to begin this musical journey. The best part of this music adventure is that we can learn from each other. I tell my students the neat things I discover about music, and I hope they will do the same.
