Yu-Jane Yang is Professor of
Piano/Piano Pedagogy and the Director of Piano Accompanying and
Group Piano Instruction at
Weber State University.
She is also the founder and director of the Weber State University
Piano Preparatory Program and WSU Kindermusik Program. She holds a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Performance from National Taiwan
Normal University and two Masters degrees, in Piano Pedagogy and in
Music Education, from the
University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign,
U.S.A. In 1994 she received her Ph.D. degree with the highest honor
from the
University of Michigan in Ann Arbor,
U.S.A., in Music Education with double cognates in Piano Pedagogy
and Piano Performance.
Dr. Yang's articles on aspects of piano pedagogy have appeared in a
number of music journals. She has given presentations at the
National Conference of Keyboard Pedagogy, the World Piano Pedagogy
Conference, National Group Piano and Piano Pedagogy Forum, National
Conference on Piano Pedagogy, and national conventions of the Music
Teachers National Assocaition. She has conducted piano workshops
and master classes in the U.S., Taiwan, Singapore, and China. She
is also active as an adjudicator, including the Utah Symphony Youth
Guild Concerto Competition, Utah State University, University of
Utah, the state piano competitions of Utah Music Teachers
Association, the state competition of Idaho Music Teachers
Association, and she was one of four judges for the preliminary
auditions of the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, held
in Salt Lake City in December 1997, and February 2006. She was one
of the three national winners of the distinguished D. H. Baldwin
Fellowship for Teaching Excellence in Piano in 1991, and appeared in
"Who's Who Among America's Teachers" in 1996, 2002, and 2005.
Dr. Yang was the faculty collaborative pianist for the American
String Workshop at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from 1992
to 1996, and for the Classical Music Festival in Austria in 1995 and
1999. She currently serves as a member of the national committees
of the Music Teachers National Association (Collegiate Student
Chapter Advisory Committee) and the National Conference on Keyboard
Pedagogy (Adult Learning/Teaching & Intership Pratica committee) in
the U.S.A. She was the state president of
Utah Music
Teachers Association 2002-2004.
In addition to performing with numerous instrumentalists and
vocalists, she is the pianist of Wasatch Piano Trio. Also with her
husband, violinist Shi-Hwa
Wang, the Formosan Duo has
performed extensively in the United States, Europe, Asia, and
Canada.
