MINUTES 
John Sohl: Moved to approve the minutes for the December 3, 1999 meeting.

Outcome: The minutes were approved.

MEETING SCHEDULE 
The Executive Committee will meet January 27 and not meet on February 3, 2000.

Scheduled for January 27th the Executive Committee will meet with Sandra Powell, Gene Bozniak, Richard Ulibarri, David Greene, Jim Wilson, Rosemary Conover and Gary Godfrey to clarify and sort out certain issues and conflicts that have arisen in coordinating the work of the Diversity Task Force on Teaching and Learning, the Curriculum and General Education Committee, and the Research, Scholarship, and Professional Growth Committee.

B Gary Godfrey, Chair, reported on the instructional improvement and research proposals awarded during Fall Semester 1999.

The committee had $15,000 for instructional improvement and research proposals, $10,000 for new faculty awards, and $3,500 in recovered funds from expired projects for a total of $28,500 available for the Fall awarding period. The committee received 27 proposals which requested just over $60,000. Fourteen projects were funded for a total of $25,600. New Faculty awards were given to four faculty members: John Cavitt, Lauren Fowler, Colin Inglefield, and Suzanne Kanatsiz for a total of $10,014.

CATALOG DEADLINE 
Dave Eisler reporting on the catalog deadline. Changes to curriculum and programs for the upcoming academic year can be made up and through the last Faculty Senate meeting for the academic year in April. These items will be included in the on-line catalog. The deadline for the printed catalog is the last Faculty Senate meeting in December.

CURRICULUM AND GENERAL EDUCATION COMMITTEE -- Jim Wilson, Chair
IS&T proposals for Computer Competence - IS&T 1000 to Software Skills for Business - IS&T 1000.

Questions were raised regarding the computer literacy requirement and whether or not this course would will the required elements. A course outline needs to be included showing the components of the course.  Dolly Samson withdrew the course proposal for IS&T 1000. This proposal will be sent back to the Curriculum & General Education Committee.

IS&T course proposal for Senior Project - IS&T 4730.

The Executive Committee requested that Dolly Samson send a copy of the course syllabus to the committee.

The Executive Committee discussed the need to have the WSU Librarian signature sign off on the course and program proposals. Kay Brown will work on correcting the problem with the forms downloading from the web.

Outcome: The motion passed unanimously to forward the course proposal to the Faculty Senate contingent on approval of the course syllabus by Executive Committee members.

Foreign Language course proposal for Senior Assessment - Frlang 4990.

The Executive Committee discussed the required course for zero credit hours. The course will meet two or three times a semester with foreign language majors who are applying for graduation. An assessment exam is required to complete the major.

USU CLASSES & PROGRAMS 
Provost Eisler met with Jeff Livingston, the Provost from Utah State University, and Terry Teigeler. Dave Eisler made clear to them that USU courses and programs taught on the Weber State campus need to be coordinated through his office. Provost Eisler discussed with them some of the concerns the Executive Committee had in regard to USU advertisements, and overlap of courses and programs offered by Weber State. The contact person for programming and policy is Provost Eisler.

Jeff Livingston explained that the role of Continuing Education is to facilitate USU=s move, find space for their offices on Weber State=s campus, facilitate some classroom space, and to work out some guidelines on half tuition waivers for WSU employees taking USU classes offered at Weber State.
