2.     APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

Motion: Moved to approve the minutes from the November 6, 2008 meeting.

Outcome: The minutes were approved following some corrections and editorial changes.
 

3.     CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW, APPORTIONMENT & ORGANIZATION – Michelle Heward, Chair

First reading of a proposed change to the Faculty Senate Constitutional Bylaws proposing that the Environmental Issues Ad Hoc Committee be made a permanent Faculty Senate Standing Committee.

4.6 Committee on Environmental Issues

The Environmental Issues Committee shall help facilitate the integration of environmental initiatives into academic affairs, student affairs, and facilities management. The committee shall serve as a local and statewide source for scientifically-based information and for leadership on environmental issues affecting Utah, the Wasatch Front and WSU campus communities.

Discussion and a vote of the above proposed amendment to the Faculty Senate Constitutional Bylaws will take place at the January 22, 2009 meeting.

Apportionment determined as follows: Total number of faculty in College ÷ Total number of Faculty X total Senate Seats

Example (College of Science) 76 ÷ 489 X 39 = 6.06

One seat was gained by the Goddard School of Busienss & Economics and one seate was lost by the College of Arts & Humanities.  Apportionment figures are based on full-time faculty as of fall semester.

Motion by the Constitutional Review, Apportionment & Organization Committee to approve the above apportionment figures for college representation on the Faculty Senate.
Outcome: The motion passed unanimously.

Motion by the Curriculum Committee to approve the above curriculum proposals.
Outcome: The motion passed unanimously.

One of the charges to the Curriculum Committee is to "Monitor the Faculty Senate paperless curriculum approval process and work with the Executive Committee to address problems and make improvements." Erika Daines asked Faculty Senate members for feedback on how this process is working. John Sohl stated that he liked the current process of reviewing curriculum proposals online as he could google courses and see similar courses taught at other universities.
 

5.    OTHER ITEMS

John Sohl - The Police Department and the Emergency Planning Committee have a program available that can be presented called, "Shots Fired." This program provides instructions of what to do if there is an active shooter on campus.
