TASK FORCE
Bruce Handley suggested to the Executive Committee that they form a task force
to obtain the views of faculty on the proposed 14-week semester presented by the
Provost at the Faculty Senate meeting September 20. The formation of a task
force was implied at the Senate meeting.
Faculty need to understand that their responsibilities would not change. Their
contract periods would stay the same. Spring break is one concern of some
faculty. Spring break could be separated from the issue. Faculty need to also
understand that this is not “a done deal.”
The task force will operate under a quick time frame. This issues needs to be
solved quickly as the academic calendar for 2008-09 is in the process of being
finalized. It is important that the chair of the task force have polling
expertise so that the right data is collected. Gene Session suggested that Rob
Reynolds serve as chair of the task force.
The survey will need to identify faculty views and any objections or concerns
they may have. Faculty need to understand their options. Health Professions has
some department specific concerns for scheduling clinical courses. All calendar
specific issues need to be addressed in the survey.
Executive Committee members will email two faculty names from their college to
serve on the task force.
MOTION
Colleen Garside: Moved to form a task force to poll faculty on the 14-week
semester proposal, and have Rob Reynolds serve as chair.
Second: Lloyd Burton
Outcome: The motion passed unanimously.
