Motion: Moved to approve the minutes from the October
19, 2006 meeting.
Made: Warren Hill
Second: Jack Rasmussen
3. UNIVERSITY RANKING TENURE EVALUATION COMMITTEE
PPM 8-16A ". . . The chair of the University Committee shall be recommended from that committee's members by the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate. The Faculty Senate shall then approve or reject the recommendation. If rejected, the Faculty Senate may either select a different chair from among the University Committee's members or have the Executive Committee make a new recommendation."
Motion by the Executive Committee for Gary Dohrer to
serve as Chair of the University Ranking Tenure Evaluation Committee for
2006-07.
Outcome: The motion passed unanimously.
4. CURRICULUM COMMITTEE – Laine Berghout, Chair
Curriculum Proposals
Health Administrative Services - Program changes for Health Information Technology A.A.S. Degree, Health Administrative Services B.S. Degree Emphasis Areas for Health Administrative Services, Health Services Administration, Health Promotion, and Long Term Care Administration, and a course proposal for The Health Care System - HAS 3000
The Health Promotion Emphasis is housed in two different colleges, Dumke College of Health Professions (Health Administrative Services Department), and the Jerry and Vickie Moyes College of Education (Health Promotion and Human Performance). Concern was expressed about the change being proposed by HAS. The change in credit hours for the Health Care System - HAS 3000 will affect the HPHP students. There was no mention in the proposal that this change would affect another department or another program. However, it was pointed out that HPHP had representation on the College of Education Curriculum Committee, and on the University Curriculum Committee, and HAS did inform the HPHP Department of the change. Discussions are currently taking place to have the Health Promotion Emphasis housed only in the College of Education and create a new emphasis for Public Health in the College of Health Professions.
Motion by the Curriculum Committee to approve from Health
Administrative Services Program Changes - Health Information Technology A.A.S.
Degree, Health Administrative Services B.S. Degree Emphasis Areas for Health
Administrative Services, Health Services Administration, Health Promotion, and
Long Term Care Administration, and a course proposal for The Health Care System
- HAS 3000.
Outcome: The motion passed with 1 abstention
Teacher Education - Program change for the Secondary Teacher Education Licensure Program, and a course proposal for Integrated Secondary Clinical Practice Seminar - EDUC 4950.
The HPHP Department again expressed concern about this change and the limited communication between Teacher Education and Health Promotion and Human Performance, and the effect this change would have on students in their program.
Senate members were also concerned about adequate discussion taking place between departments when changes are made to programs that affect more than one department. Dean Rasmussen pointed out that the HPHP Department has representation on the University Council on Teacher Education, on the College of Education Curriculum Committee, and the University Curriculum Committee.
Motion: Moved to send the proposal back to the
Curriculum Committee for further discussion between Teacher Education and
Health Promotion and Human Performance.
Made: Richard Green
Second: Becky Jo McShane
Outcome: The motion failed
Three College of Education courses are being removed as required courses in the Secondary Teacher Education Licensure Program, but the courses are not being deleted from the catalog. It was mentioned that HPHP can revise their program and require the three courses that the Secondary Teacher Education Licensure Program is proposing to remove from their program.
Motion by the Curriculum Committee to approve from Teacher Education the
program change for the Secondary Teacher Education Licensure Program, and a
course proposal for Integrated Secondary Clinical Practice Seminar - EDUC 4950.
Outcome: The motion passed unanimously.
