STUDENT SENATE RESOLUTION 
Ryan Starks representing the Student Senate - "A resolution of the WSUSA Senate to the Faculty Senate and to Weber State University Administration to ensure and enforce the observance of academic dead week (the week prior to the official finals week) and to clarify the official Weber State University Policies and Procedures concerning said week. . . "

" . . . Therefore, let it be resolved Spring 2006 that all faculty and administration of Weber State University actively observe and practice the policy of ‘dead week’ (the week directly proceeding the official finals week) by not holding exams and/or assignments during that time."

The Executive Committee suggested that there are two issues at hand (1) to adhere to current policy and (2) to clarify and/or change current policy.

MOTION

The Executive Committee felt letters of support were needed from the Zoology Department and from the Microbiology Department. These courses will be pulled from the Faculty Senate agenda if letters from the Zoology Department and the Microbiology Department are not received prior to the Senate meeting.

NEWSLETTER 
The second edition of the Faculty Senate newsletter was distributed for Executive Committee member to proof. Any suggested changes should be emailed to Kay Brown.

FACULTY REPS 
The Provost requested three names of tenured full professors to sit on the Presidential Distinguished Professor Committee that will begin meeting in March. The Executive Committee will furnish names of faculty to serve on the committee once the nominations are completed. The award carries a title without rank. Names of those receiving the award will be listed on a wall up in the Library.

The donor has requested that the title of Presidential Distinguished Professor be carried forward into emeritus status. Provost Vaughan suggested that this request be referred to a committee as a charge.

Within Administrative Services there is a training committee charged to make recommendations regarding training for classified and professional staff. They need two representatives from within Academic Affairs. The Provost would like either two department chairs or a department chair and a department secretary.

ASSA 
David Murphy representing the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences on the ASSA Committee no longer works at Weber State. Because Leah Murray also from the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences is on the committee, Executive Committee members felt David Murphy did not need to be replaced.

ALLOCATION 
A three hundred dollar allocation to department professional funds is being transferred from the Faculty Senate as release time for their college representative on the Executive Committee. The Chair and Vice Chair were excluded from this allocation.

MEMORIAL TRIBUTES 
Memorial Tributes for Jerry Borup and Kent Van de Graaff will be given at the February 16 Faculty Senate meeting.
