JUSTIFICATION: The Dance Area, inside the Department of Performing Arts, is working towards making all course offerings more pertinent for graduates entering the field. The program changes in this proposal make modifications in course offerings, requirements and pre-requisites.
· The Dance Area is deleting DANC 2890: Cooperative Work Experience. This independently focused study requires advanced students, consequently, the course has little or no enrollment.
· The Dance Area is deleting DANC 3710/3711: Dance History Project: Development/Performance, respectively. These two courses no longer act as our outreach activity. The longstanding DANC 3910/3911: Moving Company fulfills the dance-outreach component with the breadth of practical experience paired with the Community Based Learning (CBL) designation, granted by the WSU Community Involvement Center.
· The Dance Area no longer requires PEP 2300: Health Fitness Evaluation and Exercise Prescription. DANC 2300: Dance Kinesiology, already established in our curriculum will provides the breadth of information covering anatomy, applied dance kinesiology, conditioning and dance injury prevention.
· The Dance Area will be changing the title of DANC 2610/4610: Dance for the Camera to DANC 2610/4610 Dance and Digital Technology. The title changes for both lower and upper division courses better reflects the direction this course has taken in integrating regarding videography, video editing, and dissemination of work through media such as the DVD format, Youtube, Vimeo, and on-line portfolios.
· The Dance Area will add the pre-requisite of DANC 2610 for DANC 4700: Creative Synthesis in Dance. DANC 4700 is the senior capstone for the major. For students who have not taken DANC 2610, there is a deficiency in skills It has become clear to us that this is a necessary requirement for our students pursuing a BA in Dance. We wish to make this change in order to best serve our future graduates.
