Discussion

• What does it mean to represent mathematical information symbolically? The proposals define it in different ways. The Math Department has a narrow definition of "Symbolic.".
• Has anything been done with the assessment data? The department has participated in the Majors meetings, and they have looked at different text books.
• All courses have the same objectives. Math 1080 is more in depth (complexity and rigor) than Math 1030.
• The Gen Ed Committee wanted one set of criteria to use for all QL classes.
• Students can test out of 1030, 1040, 1050, and 1080 and receive QL.

Honors - New course proposal for Exploring Key Concepts in the Life Sciences - HNRS 2040

Discussion

Why would a student want to repeat this course three times for nine credit hours? Different courses will be taught under this heading dealing with various subjects. The repeat information was changed to allow students to repeat the class once for a maximum of six credit hours.

NURSING

Discussion on the AS Nursing Program

• Are there any issues with articulation? No.
• Why upper division courses in the associates degree? The changes make their program in line with national initiatives in the nursing field for more bachelor degree nurses.
• Credit hours - Changing from 69 hours to 84 hours. How is that streamlining the program? Previously they offered an associate of applied science degree. The AAS degree does not require all of the Gen Ed. The 84 hours includes all of the Gen Ed.
• An Associates degree is suppose to have a maximum of 63 credit hours. Is there precedence for hours beyond 63? Also the standard is that upper division courses are very rare in associate degree programs. The changes were made to address accreditation standards.
• The College of Health Professions has several programs that require upper division courses in their programs.
• Comparison with UVU Nursing program was distributed. The UVU program requires 70 hours.
• Is there an application fee? Yes.
• Option 1 and Option 2 only differ in two course offerings. It was suggested to have one block and show that students have the option of taking Health Science 1110 and 1111 or Zoology 2100 and 2200.
• Are students being advised to take diversity? Yes.
• Editorial changes were made to the proposals.
• How will the Nursing Department deal with grandfathering? They will work out course equivalencies. Also, the Nursing Department has relationships with tech schools.

• Application fee language needs to be consistent for all nursing programs.
• Application deadline? This is an advisement issue. The deadline dates for each of the programs are listed on the website. Programs are offered throughout the state of Utah.

• The AAS degree is quite different from the AS degree. The AAS degree guidelines have a maximum of 69 credit hours for a program, Gen Ed has to be specified, and a diversity course is not required.
• One HU course or CA course are not mentioned in the program requirements. This requirement should be listed in the support courses.

Nursing - Program changes to Bachelor of Science

Discussion

• Challenge tests are available to students who have taken courses through hospitals or non-accredited institutions.
• The program should mention how many upper division hours come from the associate degree.
• Course numbers should be consistent ( 1 and 2 or I and II ).
• Editorial changes were made to the catalog information.
• Program credit hours - 84 coming from the associate degree, plus 25 credits in nursing courses, plus 3 from any WSU course equals 112. Students will have 8 credits of elective courses.

• The changes streamline the program from the associate to the bachelor’s degree.
• NRSG 4800 needs to be deleted from the catalog pages.

Discussion

• Some of the courses use Roman numbers and some use Arabic numbers. They need to be consistent. They will use Arabic numbers on the courses.
• NRSG 4400 has a different title on the signature page. The title should be Population Health in Nursing.
• Courses with course number changes have to be equivalent courses.
• Justification needs to be added to the course deletions.
