This exam will be in two parts: (15 points total)

Part One -- Identifications: (1 point each)

Write a short paragraph identifying 5 women. Include time period, major activities, and significance in women's studies. (Different versions of the exam will list different groups of 8)

Part Two -- Essay Topics: (5 points each)

Demonstrate your wisdom and understanding of readings and class discussions, by writing a short essay (4-5 paragraphs) following topics:

1. Using the theory of social construction, explain your understanding of women's sexual behavior? For example, we invent the notion of the true (white, middle-class) woman of the 1840s as not liking sex; therefore, being tasked with controlling male sexuality.

2. Discuss either the "cult of domesticity" and the notion of "separate spheres" in relation to economic changes in the U.S. and their impact on women or discuss contemporary issues for women workers--sexual harassment, the "glass ceiling," comparable worth.

The exam will be available at the Social Science Testing Center, April 2-7. Exam booklets will be available for no cost to the student.
