Week 6: Family Roles

Due Week 8:

Social Construction

Three ways of appreciating reality, a.k.a. "truth":

Objective: Nature doesn't care what anyone thinks.
Scientific measurement shows broccoli is good for us.

Subjective: What I think matters.
I don't like broccoli

Intersubjective: What we think matters.
Everybody knows broccoli is good for us
It is ok to eat cows and chickens. Maybe pigs. Not horses or cats.
It is not ok to eat people (Jeffrey Dahmer)... but ok to eat dead ones if we get hungry enough: soccer team after plane crash in the Andes.
It is not ok to kill people... Except criminals, enemies in wars, etc?
It was once ok to kill wolves, now it isn't.
It was once ok to enslave people. Now it isn't.
