Reading Journal
Each journal installment should have several responses. it
should include:
- A vocabulary section. In each section you should
include at least five words that are new to you. These words may be terms
that you have seen before but are used in a way new to you or in a new
context. Write out a definition and include the page number
- A brief literary analysis of a passage. Choose
a passage that you would use to generate a classroom discussion.
Explain why you chose this particular passage and analyze it closely. What
images, themes, plot turns, or other literary issues do you find? What
meaning can you "tease" out of the passage of the passage?
- Reader Response. Here you should respond simply as
you like. Feel free to complain or compliment. You will not hurt my feelings
if you do not like the novel--just be specific either way. Cite the reason/s
why you feel as you do. Feel free to reassess any earlier predictions you
made. Respond to characters.
- Additional notes. Feel free to add comments based on
class discussions; ideas presented by your colleagues.
These installments will be used to support class
discussions. You will share your installments with each other. I will review the
journals periodically.
