Practicum Page
The practicum
sites I supervise include the Treehouse Childsren's Museum, the DaVinci
Academy, and TAing Introductory Psychology. I consider
there practia as exploring "alternative" educational
processes. The Treehouse is a children's museum which is
designed to promote literacy skills in from toddlerhood to
pre-adolescence. The DaVinci Academy is an Charter
Middle and High School focusing on the Arts and Sciences.
The TA practicum is design to promote students'
psychological literacy through a cognitive apprenticeship.
The practicum at all sites involves learning about the
nature and process of learning in alternative educational
environments.
Practicum has
three goals for students:
a. To learn how to apply psychological research and
theory to a real world setting.
b. To learn about processes of student learning in
alternative
educational environments (children museums and alternative
schools, college tutoring and mentoring)
c. To have a first hand experience as a
quasi-professional delivering a psycho-educational
intervention.
Details about each
practicum is available at each web site (click on a link).
