Mechanisms of Genetic Inheritance
Dominant-recessive: The influence of only one of different forms of a gene from mother
and father is apparent.
Codominant: The influence of each of the
different forms of a gene is apparent.
X-linked: The influence of genes on the mothers or fathers X chromosome.
Male offspring are more likely to be affected.Genetic imprinting: Chemical marking of one
of different forms of a genes from mother and father causing it to be activated.
Mutation: A sudden but permanent change in a gene which may occur spontaneously or due
to environmental hazzards.
Polygenic Inheritance: A pattern of inheritance in which many genes interact to
determine a characteristic.
