2/28: A couple of last minute things: Assignment 3 is due at
·
4/20: There is no class on Friday 4-21.
Discussions 7 and 8 are available.
Discussion 7 is based on the Sex and Gender chapters and lecture (it is
worth 1 point) and Discussion 8 is based on the Work and Achievement chapter
and lecture (it is worth 2 points).
Discussions 6-8 and Quizzes 7-10 close on Friday 4/28. Assignment 2 and Exam 2 rewrites are due
on Friday 4/14, at which time Assignment 3 will be discussed.
Here are some papers students have requested for their Assignment 3 projects.
1. Role of friends in risk taking (Gardner &
Steinberg, 2005).
2. Research on the imaginary audience
(Goossens
et al., 2002).
Other research papers on risk taking are
available on my web site. Click on
Adolescent Risk Taking and then click on Lectures and Readings.
·
4/4: Discussion 6 is available. It is based on yesterday’s
lecture. If you missed it, feel
free to comment on others’ posts as the issue is a fairly general one.
Assignment 2 and
Exam 2 rewrites are due on Friday 4/14, at which time Assignment
3 will be discussed.
I have updated grades to include
the exam, please check them out.
For what it is worth, Exam 2 grades correlated with Attendance (+.57),
taking the Quizzes (+.49) and completing the online Discussion (+.38). While not causal evidence for the
contribution of these activities to grades, the activities were designed to
promote you getting good grades and these correlations offer some support of
that.
·
3/30: I have updated grades, with all the attendance
data. Please check for any
problems. I have made available the
New York Time OP-ED piece I talked
about in class (click here) and
Marcia Interview (click here). You may also want to take a look at the Markstrom-Adams paper, which I will be reviewing in
class on Friday and Monday (click here).
Quizzes 7-10 are also available. They will run to the last day of class.
·
3/24: Quiz answers are now available.
·
3/10: Have a wonderful spring break! I just wanted to remind students about a
couple of things:
A. The
last due date for Assignment 2 is on the Monday after spring break.
B. Course discussions 4 and
5 are up and available. They
address ideal peers and schools.
The posts
are due by Friday 3/24.
C. Quizzes 4-6 are due
Friday 3/24.
·
2/16: The snow created some difficulties for students who
planned to take the exam yesterday.
I have extended the exam deadline until today (2/16). To be fair, there will be a penalty for
students taking the exam late, based on any grade-related advantage that late
students may have accrued.
·
2/9: Exam 1 begins tomorrow (2/10) and goes
to Wednesday (2/15). The exam will
be available in the Social and Behavioral Science Testing Center (click here
for information). The exam will
include 35 multiple choice questions and 2 short answer questions. Please bring a pencil and a dime (for
the scantron).
The blue book is free.
Grades from Assignment 1 and three attendance sign-ups are available on WebCT (click here). Please email me directly if you think
that there was an error.
I updated the calendar to reflect lecture sequence for the next section of the
course. It now includes
President’s day (holiday) and an unexpected cancelled class (3/3).
·
2/3: Quiz 2 (
·
1/22: The on-line discussion will continue until next Friday
(1/27), at which time a new discussion will be posted addressing Lectures 4 and
5.
In response to some posts, I
have added a new discussion, titled Questions, which is for students to
ask specific questions about the lectures, quizzes, textbook etc. There is no obligation to make posts to
this discussion and no credit for doing so; it is for students to ask me
questions which I will answer directly or in class.
We remain a little behind so I expect that Assignment 1 will not be assigned
until Wednesday or Friday and that it will be due a week later. More will be said about Assignment 1 on
Monday.
·
1/11: The first on-line discussion is now
available on WebCT. Just go to http://vista.weber.edu. Login as you would
to get into the WSU web site and click on our class (Psych 3140). Open the Course Discussion folder and
click on Course Discussion 1.
The WebCT site also has a link to e-reserve
for you to download all the lectures.
·
1/10: In lecture, I mentioned a paper
published on the topic of adolescents and the death penalty. To retrieve the paper, click
here.
·
1/9: The Syllabus and Policy quiz (click here) must be
completed over the next week (1/18) for you to get full credit. The test
contains questions about the syllabus, course requirements, and web site.
You can take the test as often as you wish, but you need to get 12/14 questions
correct to get credit! Good luck and enjoy exploring the class web
site. Comments are always welcomed.
