Objective
To develop a basic knowledge of Classical Japanese literature
Policy regarding examinations
You know what to do and not to do. I know you know. So you know I know you know.
Policy regarding Homework
Late homework and/or sloppy homework will be penalized.
Short Essays: You will write 4 essays about parts of literature in the book. You need to write 2 essays in Japanese and the other 2 essays in English. The length of each paper should be 11/2~2 pages long. In the case of English, it must be type written (double spaced & font size 12 times/romans). Since this course is not a language course, I am not be as picky as I would be in a language course about the accuracy of grammar. However, all papers must be readable.
Book Review: You can pick up any book that was written between the 7th Century to the early 19th Century by Japanese author, except poems. You need to read an entire book. There are several books available at the Stewart Library. However, the library has a very few selection. If you go to the University of Utah library, you will have a wider selection. Do not wait until the last minutes. You may have no book to read because other students may have checked them out. You may write it either in English or in Japanese. In the case of English, the paper should be 8~10 pages long and type wriiten (double spaced & font size 12 times/romans). The paper must contain the outline of the story (no more than 4 pages) and your reflections about the book.
Policy regarding Absences
The first two absences will not affect your participation regardless of reason. From the third absence on, each absence will lower your overall course grade by 1%. If you have a legitimate reason (extended illness, job interview, etc.) for an absence, inform me as soon as possible. Headache, stomachache, and/or cold are not considered extended illness. Save two free absence credits for such occasions. Do not come to me after you find yourself in trouble.
Physical and/or Learning Disability
Students with medical, psychological or learning limitations who desire academic adjustments or accommodations, should contact the Center for Students with Disabilities. This contact should occur at least ten days prior to the time an academic adjustment or accommodation is needed.
