McKay-Dee Hospital Healthcare and Literature Reading Group

Who are we?

I am a professor in the English Department at Weber State University.  My current research is on medical and health humanities.  Medical humanities is interested in the link between literature and other arts and medicine. I have taught classes on medicine and literature and recently presented a paper at the American Society for Bioethics and Humanites in Washington, D.C.  I have an article forthcoming in the Journal of Medical Humanities.

Using a physicians and literature reading group associated with the University of Utah Medical School as a model, I am setting up and facilitating once a month book discussion groups for physicians and other health care providers.  We will be reading works of fiction and non-fiction, focusing on issues that are relevant to health and healthcare.  Below you will find the list of books for the first half of 2013.

We will meet at McKay-Dee Hospital in Intermountain University Room 1 at 7 p.m.
