CLEP POLICY

Discussion of PPM 4-21a - The PPM was compared with Clara Puffer=s memo dated November 20, 1995. In the memo it states . . . AA special examination cannot be taken for any course for which a student has previously registered.@ This specific statement does not appear in the PPM. Kay Brown will talk with Clara Puffer regarding the quoted statement in the memo.

Discussion of item B - Credit is not awarded if duplicated by previous examinations, petition or course work for which a student received a grade (A-E, I, T, W, UW, CR, NC). The committee discussed the possibility of removing W and UW from the list. In the past concern was that students would take courses and not pay for them and use that experience to pass the exam. Current policy requires students who attend through the third week to pay for the course. Dave Eisler will look into this issue. The committee suggested the Admissions, Standards, and Student Affairs Committee review this policy.

FRS TAX ID

The Purchasing Department is requesting all departments to obtain Federal Tax ID numbers for all vendors along with W-9 forms. These forms were previously handled routinely by the Purchasing Department. Dave Eisler will talk with Steve Nabor and Al Simkins. The purchasing cards could be used to avoid the process of obtaining the Federal Tax ID numbers and W-9 forms.

$25 ID SCAM

Nationally identification cards are being mailed to college and university students at a cost of $25. Students assume this fee is for an identification card from their institution, but it is not. It is a scheme to make money. Suggestion was made to put an ad in the Signpost to make students aware of this scam.

LIBRARY COMMITTEE

PPM 4-15 - Library Committee - In response to Dwayne Meadows= memo the committee discussed two issues: The Library Committee as currently functioning, and library acquisitions. The committee discussed the rising cost of academic journals. In the past two years the upgrading cost for library journals was around $56,000. John Sohl will respond to Dwayne Meadows.
