1. ROLL

2. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES

Motion: Moved to approve the minutes from the September 20, 2007 meeting.
Made: John Sohl
Second: Chris Bentley
Outcome: The minutes were approved.

3. 14-WEEK SEMESTER TASK FORCE

The Executive Committee established a task force for the purpose of ascertaining faculty views on the potential change from a 15-week semester calendar to a 14-week semester calendar. Rob Reynolds will chair the task force. Committee members are: Shelley Thomas (A&H), Al Talbot (COAST), Tony Allred (B&E), Kim Hyatt (Educ), Yas Simonian (HP), Ed Hahn (Lib), Michelle More (S), and Bruce Handley (Executive Committee Liaison). The committee has met one time and roughed out a fairly simple questionnaire that will be sent out soon to faculty. They are hopeful of receiving a fairly high response from faculty so that a decision of whether a change should be made in the academic calendar can be determined in the next few weeks.

Charge - Examine calendar issues related to scheduling for fall, spring, and summer semesters, then poll the faculty to identify the value of each issue (a ranking scale of 1-5 could be used).

4. UNION BUILDING DINING

In January 2005 the Faculty Senate approved a resolution to "include a small (50-75 seats), quiet, table-service dining room in the renovation program for the Shepherd Union Building." The motion was passed by the Faculty Senate with 25 in favor of the motion, 9 against and 3 abstentions.

The Shepherd Union Building has just opened up the Wildcat Room which is located just west of Hogi Yogi that makes available a similar experience to what was offered in the Skyroom. The room can also be reserved for group meetings and dining. Whether or not this kind of dining is preserved will depend on the support of faculty, staff, and students. Faculty members were encouraged to frequent the Wildcat Room. Information about this facility will be included in the Faculty Senate newsletter.

The Senate thanked Rick Sline and Bruce Handley for working with the Director of the Shepherd Union Building to included the Wildcat Room and the food service provided there in response to the request of the faculty.

A concern was expressed about food service vendors not being able to deduct the tax from amount due when food was being charged to a P Card account. The Senate Office will check with the Bill Fruth, Director of the Shepherd Union Building, to correct the problem.

5. SALARY, BENEFITS, BUDGETS & FISCAL PLANNING

Replace Kim Hyatt with David Berry on the Salary, Benefits, Budget & Fiscal Planning Committee.

Motion from the Executive Committee that David Berry represent the College of Education on the Salary, Benefits, Budget & Fiscal Planning Committee.
Outcome: The motion passed unanimously.

6. UNIVERSITY RANKING TENURE EVALUATION COMMITTEE

PPM 8-16A “. . . The chair of the University Committee shall be recommended from that committee's members by the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate. The Faculty Senate shall then approve or reject the recommendation. If rejected, the Faculty Senate may either select a different chair from among the University Committee's members or have the Executive Committee make a new recommendation.”

The Executive Committee recommends Gene Bozniak to serve as chair of the University Ranking Tenure Evaluation Committee. Committee members are: Steve Eichmeier (COAST), Tracy Callahan (A&H), Steve Russell (B&E), Shirley Leali (Educ), Catherine Earl (HP), John Sillito (Lib), and Richard Ulibarri (S&BS).

Motion by the Executive Committee that Gene Bozniak serve as chair of the University Ranking Tenure Evaluation Committee.
Outcome: The motion passed unanimously.
