INFORMATION TO FACULTY
The Executive Committee discussed the best way to disseminate information to faculty and whether or not the Senate was the best place to give information to faculty.
Possibilities included: Deans Council who would then pass the information to department chairs, the use of CyberCats through the Alumni Association, or links from the Faculty Senate page to various topics or items, i.e. Ed Pass, Athletics Report, new policies, conferences.
A suggestion was also made to have Andy Lingwall, who teaches the Public Relations course come to the Executive Committee and present possible ideas. The Public Relations course has students create newsletters, and web pages as class projects to give them "real world" experiences.

MOTION
Becky Johns: Moved to ask Andy Lingwall to come to the Executive Committee and discuss possible assistance from the students in his Public Relations course. He will be invited to the September 25 meeting.
Second: Wade Kotter
Outcome: The motion passed unanimously.

FACULTY/STUDENT SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES
There is an Undergraduate Research Task Force under the direction of Kathleen Lukken working on expanding faculty/student research projects. A campus audit indicated that there are currently 150 faculty working with students on research projects. Last Spring Weber State sent 50 students with 30 projects to the National Conference in Undergraduate Research at the University of Utah. A campus audit indicates that 150 faculty are working with hundreds, possibly thousands, of students in undergraduate research opportunities.
It is important for the institution to support faculty and student undergraduate research projects. Such projects are effective teaching and learning approach to get students engaged in what they are learning; they learn how their discipline applies and acquires knowledge; they develop communication skills as they present at conferences; and the projects provide mentoring opportunities for faculty.
There will be a day long event on September 26 where we are inviting two speakers from other campuses to discuss how Weber State can institutionalize this endeavor. What do we need to put in place to do it better?

FACULTY SENATE WEB PAGES
Executive Committee members were asked to look at the Faculty Senate web pages and come back with suggestions. Faculty members could add Faculty Senate to their personal sidebar on their computer. The Faculty Senate pages are currently organized under committees. We may want to add some hot buttons to talk about issues, i.e. Research.
It was suggested that Kathy Edwards be contacted to look at what is currently available and make suggestions on organization of the Senate web pages.
