JUSTIFICATION:

The state (Utah State Office of Education) wants a calculus prerequisite for the probability and statistics course they require for a level 4 certification (our major), and Math 2410 didn’t really have a calculus prerequisite, and calculus was not used in the course.  Our Math 3410 does have a calculus prerequisite, and the only reason we first introduced Math 2410 was so students could be exposed to more statistics.  That is not required by the state.

We are the only institution in the state to have two capstone courses.  By dropping one, we allow more flexibility for students and more choice with electives.  We were criticized for not having electives for students in our program review.  By having two electives, it still allows students to take History of Mathematics, but they won’t have to.  This also could help with enrollment of other upper division mathematics courses.
