The portal project resumes today with materials on library portals. Library portals serve as points of access to information resources on the campus and beyond. They can stand alone as portals or be implemented into a portal project.
As libraries work to provide depth of content with ease of access, the concept of the individualized library portal has evolved. This approach allows users to both customize and individualize information resources not only from the campus library, but from throughout the Internet. The information on library portals and reference material inclusion in campus portals is available at http://weber.edu/portals/library_portals.htm
I am especially intrigued by the capability to create a personalized library portal that is accessible through the Internet. This would seem to be of significant benefit for faculty to conduct library research from a variety of locations and to configure information resources effectively.
As the fall term moves toward conclusion, the Provost Portal project also nears the end. Three lessons remain. Thursday we'll present information on student portals. Next week will include information for further study and an executive summary.
