Creative Processes in the Elementary Classroom (ED
3430)
Scheduling of Summer and Fall 2009 Courses: All summer and fall sections are scheduled to be taught in intensive, one-week blocks. Each section meets M-F from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily wih working lunches. Sometimes the computer will indicate that the course lasts all semester. Don't worry, it doesn't. Preliminary scheduling of the classes is as follows:
Summer 2009—May 4-8 (the week before regular summer session starts)
Fall 2009 Section 1—August 3-7 (if enrollment justifies two sections)
Fall 2009 Section 2—August 10-14 (the usual "fall" section)
Note: Regular fall semester classes do not start until August 24.
General information: This
course is open to anyone admitted
to the elementary education
program and is a "support course"
in the program. Please click
on the link for information
about course content
and requirements. This course
is sometimes taught as a one-week
intensive course and sometimes
as an "evening" (4-7 p.m.)
course (usually spring semester). Check this website
or call the department secretary
for details.

Utah Core Curriculum for PreK-6
Art and Music
The most current versions of all Teacher
Guidebooks (Rainbow Grids) and
Assessment tools (Swirls) for
all four art forms can be found
on the USOE website under Curriculum/Fine
Arts. Follow the link at the
bottom of the purple and gold
Fine Arts home page. These versions
will be used for assignments
in ED 3430 and ED 4340.
Here is some information to help you make sense of the
lesson plan and curriculum
map links on this website:
All lesson plans and curriculum maps are posted
exactly as I received them.
Most content is correct, most
teaching strategies are effective,
and these documents are full of
wonderful ideas. However, you
must be the final judge of the
correctness, completeness, and usefulness
of all the material posted.
Posted curriculum maps are based on the new, "rainbow grid" teacher guide of the art and music core, available on the USOE website. Posted lesson plans are older and do not reflect the most recent version of the art and music core.
Student
names are used on these files
with the students' knowledge
and permission. As discussed
in class, students are free to
submit files for this website
without any identifying information
included.
Each lesson's file name helps identify its
contents. The code for art
or music lessons is
described below. Curriculum Map
files have been named using a system similar
to the art and music lessons.
A or M (first letter in file name) indicates an "art" or "music" lesson.
C or
I (second letter in file name)
indicates a "core" or "integrated"
lesson.
The number(s) following these letters indicates the intended grade
level(s) of the lesson. The teacher candidate's last name is the next portion of the file
name.
"am" or "pm" indicates whether the teacher
candidate submitting the lesson was in the morning or afternoon
section of ED4340.
Example:
AI2Smithpm would be an integrated art lesson
for 2nd grade by Mary Smith who
was in the afternoon section.
MC5Garciapm would be a music lesson, addressing the music core, created by Marcus Garcia.
