You Tube Analysis

Assignment: You will present an Analysis of one (1) site on You Tube.com which relates to issues of gender. Your presentation should allow for a brief discussion. Your presentation should

• analyze the gender assumptions presented on the site/"text"
• make use of feminist theories to illuminate the way in which gender is understood and used in your example.

Purpose: Analyzing You Tube.Com  will help you put theory to work in the world around us.

Method: Choose a site on You Tube.Com.  (the Top You Tube Videos) Provide your fellow students with a handout in which you list the main segments of the video.

Your presentation should briefly summarize the content of the site. Most of your time should be devoted to a  feminist analysis. You might consider such issues as:

• how is the site a "text"?
• how is the site a "performance"?
• what is the "standpoint" of the creator?
• what do you bring to your "reading" of the "text"?
• how does text express "multiplicity"?

• is the site a "marginal" or "subversive" text?

Assessment: Your presentation will be graded on the complexity and thoroughness of your analysis, your incorporation of course readings and theories into that analysis, clarity of presentation, and adherence to time limit.
