Writing a Summary

In an objective summary, you are attempting to determine the most important points that the author wishes to make, to attach an order to their importance, and to relay as many of the most important as your writing space will allow. You will leave out all examples and direct quotations, as well as descriptions or dialogue.

The summary essay requires an introduction whose thesis is the main point your author is attempting to make.It contains transitions between paragraphs that are coherent themselves and that follow the order that the author follows. The conclusion will emphasize the significance of what the author says.

Like any university essay, this one will show revision and attention to the mechanics of writing, as well as to a well-organized structure.
