Guidelines for Orienting New Faculty and Staff
to the Information Literacy Program and Team (DRAFT)

The Instruction Services Librarian will provide an overview of team activities:

The University Librarian encourages and regularly extends financial support for continuing education activities, on and off campus, for all information literacy team members, and especially for new team members, as funds are available. Continuing education opportunities are planned in the library each semester. In addition, Instruction faculty/staff are expected to attend continuing education activities outside of the library and off campus through the following regularly scheduled activities:

The information literacy team intranet provides multiple suggestions and resources for teaching tips and other online tools to enhance teaching.

Library faculty and members of the information literacy team are expected to share teaching plans, pedagogies, assessments, materials and curriculum and other ideas broadly and appropriately with new faculty. All LibSci course syllabi and many other teaching materials are on the Web and on the team Intranet. In addition new faculty are invited by all members of the team to observe class sessions of others as needed.

New faculty are encouraged to report on how their assessments have increased student learning and on any instruction related continuing education activities in their annual Faculty Activity Report. Faculty are encouraged to regularly share new information and scholarly activities with their colleagues
