Announcements

Classroom notebooks - Fran has done an excellent job of updating the classroom notebooks. please let her know if you have suggestions as these are always a work in progress.
Classroom use - Fran had distributed statistics a week or two ago about how heavily the classrooms are being used this semester/
English 1010 flyer - Fran and Carol added all the suggestions we received form the team and Fran is distributing to all the English 1010 classes. Garth has the master on his PC. Joan may have it published in the signpost.
Untangle draft assessment form has been developed and the guidelines for participants have been updated. Forms are behind the yellow forms on the shelf below the printer in 138. Carol will have enough copies made for this semester and add it to classroom supply list.
- Joan suggested a very basic session for spring, including how to bookmark
There are several good instruction related CE programs coming up: 2 good programs in New Orleans for ALA Mid Winter, ACRL Immersion in Colorado this summer, LOEX of the West June 27 to 29 in Eugene, Or. Internet Librarian Nov 6-8 in Pasadena, Ca in November.

Discussion

The team discussed the revised instruction team/program goals, and made several suggestions. Jill and Shaun had sent suggestions earlier. I have included everyone's suggestions. None were controversial.
Suggestions to Instruction Web goals (extracted from team/program goals above) were also ms inor and all were suggestions were made.
Team members liked the idea of having an Information Literacy Program description linked from the Instruction page, as the last link called "About Our Program." Carol will add as she has time. The team also liked the diagram. There was some discussion about the pages linking from the diagram. Joan thought it was a good idea to list upper division and lower division courses where instruction is taking place. Bibliographers do not need to do this, it can be done by office staff from instruction data forms. We may also eventually link to summarized assessment data on these pages. I really think it will be a positive visual aid to assist us in growing the information literacy program.

Based on our discussions, the Subject Specific Instruction Sub-Committee has identified the following priority outcomes:

1.2.4 Identifies the purpose and audience of potential resources in a variety of formats (e.g., multimedia, database, website, data set, audio/visual, book)

2.2.2 Identifies keywords, synonyms and related terms for the information needed

2.2.4 Constructs a search strategy using appropriate commands for the information retrieval system selected (e.g., Boolean operators, truncation, and proximity for search engines; internal organizers such as indexes for books)

2.3.1 Uses various search systems to retrieve information in a variety of formats

Classroom computer issues. A few glitches with Altiris, but most everything is working pretty well. Carol will send an email to Media/Reserve clarifying when to open room 31.
