Information Literacy
Team Meeting
Minutes
Thursday September 25, 2003 at 1:30 in room 138
Announcements
- Instruction data and forms - summary totals for English 2010 and FYE were added to the new form. Carol distributed summaries of course integrated sessions from the past two years. Summary data from the last year was also distributed, this may not be accurate due to staff turnover. Hopefully the new form will help us gather more consistent data in the future.
- English 2010 printing costs - Carol will look into redesigning the English 2010 exercise to reduce the expense of printing. Any suggestions are welcome.
- K Stevensons's students will be using information literacy as a design project.
- Viewing email plaintext vs html - Please let Carol know if you are having trouble viewing her email as she generally uses HTML mode. Groupwise users have the option of viewing email in text or html mode. Students using wildcat email generally view in HTML.
Discussion
Team issues:1) Information Literacy Web pages - The server was down so we did not discuss. Fran was the only team member that sent comments. If others have suggestions on the following pages please send to Carol. Carol will send out some drafts for review soon.Faculty issues1) Student end of course evaluations (all revised drafts are available for view from the Intranet)
- Faculty team members finalized discussion on forms.
- LibSci 2201, 1704, 2704, HU1115
- We discussed the use of SNAP for the student end of course evaluation form. Carol, Shaun, Art and all the adjuncts are seriously concerned with the lack of security with SNAP. In addition to lack of security there are the problems with mixed up evaluations (Shaun and Sally last Spring) and the fact we have yet to see the summer evaluations for 1704, English 2010 and FYE. Joan agreed to looking into making SNAP more secure. Carol mentioned that both Steve Kerr in institutional research and Luke Fernandez with Chitester were willing to create a secure form.
- FLASH: immediately after the IL meeting Carol and Shaun attended a Web CT meeting. According to Marv and Scott, Web CT can easily be used to develop and crunch numbers for an evaluation form. They said we could use Web CT for our end of course evaluations by Spring. This would be an EXCELLENT solution! Carol will alert Joan and continue to monitor.
As may arise
- Kathy reported that the Davis classrooms are still having problems. One of the electronic classrooms definitely works better than others. Ask Kathy and Art for details if you will be teaching there this semester.
- Shaun presented the research she has compiled analyzing data from the Internet navigator Module 1 survey/assignment indicating our students are increasingly information literate from their freshman to senior levels.
