Instruction Team Meeting

Attendees: Carol, Shaun, Wade, Fran, Lonna, Art, Evan, Joan, Jill, Chris (for a bit)

We discussed problems with 2010 exercise. Carol distributed student feedback to date. It is mostly positive , a small percentage of the students already know it, and several students are frustrated by remote access.

Carol will add encyclopedia link to reference source question and redo #3 on popular vs. scholarly for next term.She requested additional input to continually improve these sessions.

Shaun suggested we get rid of our tables and letter codes at the top of each database page and add one of the following phrases after each database listed on the database pages, as needed:

• Access from home with password (hyperlink)
• Access from home with proxy (hyperlink)
• Available anywhere
• Campus only
• Campus only, get password from reference
• Library only
• Library only, get password from reference

The first two above will be hyperlinks. Shaun is developing a prototype for the "Access from home with password" page which she will distribute to instruction team when finished. The "Access from home with Proxy" will go to our Remote Access page.

Jill suggested we develop a template for our research guides and showed us what is being done at Marriott. The team agreed this was an excellent idea and decided on the folowing elements to be included in the template. Carol will work with Garth and Karen to create a draft template to bring back to the team, it will include the following:

• Finding Books
• Finding Reference resources
• Finding Articles
• Article databases
• Electronic Journals
• Web Links
• Research Tips
