Thursday August 29 at 1:30 in room 138

Attendees: Carol, Wade, Evan, Art, Joan, Kathy, Lonna, Fran, Shaun, Janae, Brianna

Announcements

  1. Classroom update - classrooms are working great. Systems will open up each day, except for 7:00 AM classes when we need to be there early to open stations. Altiris is supposedly working better.
  2. Carol and Fran distributed the English 2010 and FYE schedule, exercise, and powerpoint presentation. We will try to use SNAP for assessment. Please double check the schedule and your calendar as some changes have been made.
  3. We will set up the 2003/2004 teaching schedule in October. Joan said that Kathy  would give an 11 month faculty member who wants to teach on load in the summer a reduction in reference hours.
  4. Carol will arrange for PDA training and SNAP training sometime later this semester for team members.

Discussion

Review:

  1. 2002/2003 team goals and planning. Team goals were accepted as written by team.
  2. Instruction team policies, mission. Policies were accepted with minor changes Carol ahd made before meeting. Mission is accepted as wrtitten.
  3. There were no questions on the annual report.
  4. The Instruction Responsibilities for Guides page was modified. JaNae will take over the Research Tips/Techniques guide. Kathy will do the glossary. Identifying Resources and Untangling the Web will be dropped. We still need someone to do a guide on Biographical Sources. A couple of people mentioned they had suggestions for the Citing guide. They said it needs more examples and/or links to good MAL and APA, etc. guides need to be moved up. Any additional suggestions may be forwarded to Art directly.
  5. Kathy said John is updating the draft list of terminology to be used on the new web shortly. This will be a big  help in Instruction.
  6. The Instruction team members will begin to think about the new instruction pages for the New Web. A subcommittee will be formed  and it will begin to work on this as soon as we have a clear go ahead from WAG. Please let Carol know if you would like to be on the subcommittee.
  7. Plan for Integrating 24/7 into instruction isn't needed as it probably won't be all that popular to begin with. We will mention it in our classes.

Updates

  1. The team updated Carol on the recent 0rientations (new faculty and new student)
  2. The Subcommittee chaired by Ruby from last semester on developing alternatives for Untangling the Web never met. Team will address new needs as they arise.
  3. SNAP worked successfully for Art this summer. Carol will work with Kathy Thiriot to implement for all our other classes.

As may arise
