Announcements

  1. Classroom, Contribute and Dreamweaver updates
    • Chris was busy, but sent the following info via email:
      • All computers in Classroom 138 have been replaced with newer equipment. Dave has indicated that there are no notable functionality changes other than the shutdown procedure which slightly differs from the how it was before these computers were replaced. This procedure is trivial and Fran has been briefed on this. There were no changes performed or requested for Classroom 31.
      • The rollout of Contribute II should begin within the next two weeks. I think after next week I'll be able to find the time to schedule the Dreamweaver account setup with you [and others]. I will let you [and others] know when I'm ready.
      • Fran will provide instructions in our classroom notebook for logging off  student stations in 138 and on the Altiris problems/issues she mentioned
    • John L and Fran have worked out a schedule for opening classes due to scheduling problems with Systems staff we will have less support than in previous semesters. see below from John L.
      • Changes in staffing for Reference and Systems personnel will mean that only Circ and Media personnel will be available at 7:00 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays during Fall semester. This could pose a problem for nonlibrary instructors who schedule classrooms at 7:00 a.m. I've spoken to Fran and she will propose the following at the Instruction Team meeting this afternoon: 1) Access Services personnel will open both classrooms each morning through September, and thereafter if requested by Fran (as the person who oversees scheduling). 2) Instructors (library and nonlibrary) will be responsible for turning on the stations in their classroom for sessions scheduled prior to 8:00 a.m. 3) Through September, Systems will turn on the stations in both classrooms at 8:00 a.m. if they have not already been used for an earlier session. (And thereafter if requested by Fran). 4) Unless requested by Fran, instructors will be responsible for turning on stations in classrooms after October 1.
  2. General Guides: The maps in the General Guide are out of date. Kathy has not updated and Joan does not have $$ to reprint anyway. Feel free to handout remaining copies. Hopefully we can have a wonderful new General Guide next term with our new logo!
  3. The G and H drives have been emptied for some mysterious reason, watch for an update from Systems?

Discussion

  1. Fall English 2010 and FYE exercise  and Powerpoints are ready to go -
    • Evan made one minor suggestion on the 2010  exercise it was accepted and changed
    • Carol is waiting to hear from John L or Steve Kerr  about the feedback form file names.
    • Carol passed out copies of the updated powerpoints, they are also on the desktops in 31 and 138.
  2. New student end of course evaluations
    • The suggestions from the navigator team were accepted. The student end of course evaluation form was revised to be used for all classes with 3 or 4 questions at the end that may be unique for a particular course.  Wade will chair a subcommittee of LS2201 instructors (that may do all of its work via email) to come up with the questions for the LS2201. Carol will do the same for the navigator and HU1115. Shaun will do it for Lib Sci 2704. These will be sent out to the team for final review. Let's try to do this in the next week or two.
    • See new draft at  above link, refresh. Shaun and Kathy, as you were unable to attend today's meeting, please send any additional comments or suggestions to me very soon and I will send out to the team before a final draft is completed.
  3. Library Instruction web page rationale/vision - Joan .
    • Joan discussed team issues with the term "Library Instruction" on the home page, and what a mish mash she thinks the page is, but said WAG will not make any changes until December. Joan feels there just can't be any exceptions. Carol wondered why so many other "exceptions" were made and feels the team's input wasn't given a chance. (weren't "Connecting from Home,"  Iliad/something and Articles & Databases, among others, all on the officially approved Home page? hmmmm....) She also wondered why an unused term from the label table was even used (before label table was officially dumped)?  WAG rules and deadlines seem to change according to some things/people, but not for others. Hopefully rules and deadlines will be much clearer and more IL team input will be possible in the future.
  4. Involving campus faculty in IL program planning-
    • As IL is a campus wide initiative, we need to involve more faculty, from other departments, in the planning and delivery of the program. The team agreed to each identify  a campus faculty member that could effectively be involved and let me know before our next meeting. Faculty members may be those that are already highly supportive, or newer faculty that we want to bring into the initiative. The team discussed we could have an "advisory group" meet with a subset of the team. Campus faculty and staff could  take a role in helping us better integrate and assess IL in the departments/majors.
  5. 2003/2004 draft goals  and action items - any suggestions? We did not have time to discuss this
  6. As may arise
    • Carol wondered if anyone had seen the library's annual report?
      • summary instruction data for last year is probably still not available due to staff turnover in office? Carol will check.
    • We briefly discussed the idea of trying to identify areas in student services where we could develop liaisons to promote information literacy. JaNae has agreed to work with the folks in Early College? We will continue to discuss.
    • Please remember all http://library.weber.edu file names end with .cfm when you are working on Guides and giving out URL's.
    • Fran says the marketing committee may get us logos we can use for handouts etc in a month or so...
