Minutes

April 29, 2002

Attendees: Joan, Fran, Ruby,  Evan, Briana, Shaun, JaNae, Wade, Kathy

Excused: Lonna, Art, Carol

Notes by Fran Zedney

1. FYE and English 2010

Fran handed out the summer instruction calendar for the 2010 and FYE sessions. The Fall calendar will be handed out later this week after Carol reviews it.  So far we have 62 sessions in the Fall--42 Eng 2010 and 20 FYE.  There are fewer night classes this Fall and more online sessions.

2.  Overview of Library Instruction

Joan distributed a handout with numbers for total library instruction sessions broken down by departments, etc. for Fall 2001 and Spring 2002 terms through 3/31/02.  It showed a total of 142 subject specific sessions which is pretty impressive. It's also a good way to see which departments might be targeted for more promotion of library sessions during the coming year.  If anyone thinks the number of sessions for a particular department is low, please report corrected number to Joan. She will use this list in the library's annual report.

3.  Untangling the Web Discussion

It was unanimous that Untangling the Web sessions as we have done them in the past are not worth the time and effort we put into them since attendance had dropped quite a lot during the last two terms. Fran reported that she has had several people ask if we were going to continue the classes in the Fall. Ideas suggested were to have fewer sessions,  to consider some that would be more focused for particular departments (Business, Arts and Humanities, etc.), the possibility of developing an online tutorial for distance ed students,  and offering drop-in sessions for students taking online courses. Joan asked Evan, Ruby, and Fran to work together this summer to come up with ideas for Fall sessions, emphasizing a fresh perspective, a different approach, and fewer sessions.

4.  Instruction Team Goals

It was moved and seconded to adopt the Draft goals  for the upcoming year. One additional project which Kathy suggested we consider (and one we have previously discussed) was preparing a "canned" Eng 2010 presentation to use for the off-campus English 2010 orientation sessions. Shaun offered to discuss this with Carol. According to Joan, we have ARCC funding for the necessary equipment. It's now a matter of someone preparing the module.

In thinking about individual goals, Joan offered the following considerations:

Individual team members should develop personal goals which

Also, Joan feels it is not imperative for each person to set  a number of goals for Reference, Instruction, and Collection Development. Kathy will continue to expect Reference goals from each individual, however. Since Carol is on sabbatical, Joan suggested that Briana, Lonna and Fran discuss their personal Instruction goals with Joan over the summer. These will then be forwarded to Carol for review.

5. As May Arise

There were no as may arise discussions.

Meeting adjourned about 2:10 PM.
