  4. Carol announced the UALC Professional Development Presentation on Building a Culture of Assessment, Friday March 26 1:30 PM at Eccles or via web broadcast, see http://faculty.weber.edu/chansen/UALCPD/spring04.htm. If you were unable to attend a video will be posted on the Web in a week or so.

  5. Carol encouraged library faculty to attend the Undergraduate Research Symposium on Monday March 29 12-5 PM - it is a great liaison opportunity. She also mentioned that students applying for UR funds in the future will need to list 3 sources of information relevent to their research and there is a link from the online application form to the list of Subject Librarians they may contact for help if needed

  6. Shaun and Dave Durkee have had a pare accepted at a conference in the UK this summer. Congrats Shaun!

  7. Carol has been invited to give a presentation on IL to community college librarians in Washington on April 9 and has an IIL meeting in Seattle on the 6th.

Discussion

  1. Summer English 2010 update - Carol, Lonna, and Fran met as a subcommittee to review exercise and past assessment data.

The following decisions were made on the exercise:

    1. A printed exercise will still be given to each student
    2. The exercise has been given to K Stevenson and she is trying to find a student to help with a better overall graphic design. Fran suggested Andy Lingwall as another source of assistance on this if K can't help out soon.
    3. More space will be provided for students to write their answers
    4. Sections on encyclopedia and SIRS have been dropped
    5. page numbers will be added before printing

The following decisions were made on the presentation:

    1. presentations need to be 15 minutes or less
    2. presenters need to think about their voice level and speed
    3. a voluntary informal peer review of our presentations is encouraged. The subcommitte suggests that we would like each person that provides English 2010 presentations to invite any other member of the team to watch one of their sessions and give them informal feedback

The following data is suggested for the Web advisory and usability committees

    1. the database finder is very confusing
    2. an A-Z at the top of each page would help alot
    3. the ask a librarian is impossible for students to find
  2. New instruction data database - Carol demonstrated the database and has asked team members to use it from now on. Earlier data will be inputted by a student so we will have the full year in the database. Ben Barraza has some additional work to do on it. The team was happy to see this technological advancement which will eliminate the purple instruction data sheets. This will be editable.
  3. 2003/2004 draft goals  and action items - No new  suggestions were made. Carol reported that the team had accomplished two major initiatives this year with the presentations to student services and with the collaboration with Undergraduate Research initiative. Both of these collaborations will and do add strength and commitment to the Information Literacy program. Work goes forward on the Gen Ed reform committee too and that will also be a great spot to intertwine information literacy in the future.

Faculty Issues

  1. Web CT - training and Internet Navigator conversion - Library faculty are all getting the required training. Adjuncts will be trained May 5th. Carol and Shaun are working on the Web CT version of the Navigator. Course files have been loaded. There are still dozens of hours of work left to do...
  2. Teaching schedule - we will be happy to add Carie Sydney to our faculty in April
  3. Student end of course evaluations are on chitester now. Jamie has sent out URL's, but students can just log in to http://chitester.weber.edu then go to faculty name and select evaluation form. Call Jamie for assistance if needed.
