Entire Team Issues

Lonna created the agenda, conducted the meeting and prepared the minutes. Jordan will do this for the next meeting April 22.

1. Announcements - Carol

Audix via the Web-  Carol explained the Audix View on the Web. She demonstrated how to get voice mail from your computer. It will be especially useful for those who live out of town or are traveling to be able to check voice mail from home without calling long distance. The link is on Weber’s Home Page under Telecom.

The CD Rom drive in 138 was fixed by Dave. THANKS!

2. 2010 Subcommittee updates - Jill

Jill gave an interim report from the English 2010 subcommittee. The subcommittee members are Jill, Joan, Lonna and Peggy. Jill and Joan went through the 2010 exercise themselves to get a hands on look at the exercise. They thought that this was useful. Jill sent out a short survey via e-mail to the Instruction Team members asking about the 2010 sessions. She received only three responses. Some team members confused this survey with the survey Carol sent out to English 2010 faculty. Jill will re-send the e-mail and would like feedback from the team by March 22. The team plans to meet again after Spring Break and look at the data.

Carol distributed the results of the faculty survey she sent out. She sent 19 and got five responses.

They were generally positive. Carol has the raw data if anyone would like to see it.

3. General sessions for fall - Carol

Carol reported that she felt that they have gone well. Attendance is up considerably from last year. There was good publicity in the Sign Post and in the Standard. Carol sent e-mail to various departments on campus to announce the last session. There were not many students attending any of the sessions, which was disappointing. The attendees were mostly community people and emeritus professors, with a few library staff members and other faculty and staff attending. There were different groups of people at each session. The Instruction team was urged to attend at least one session to get a good perspective of how they are going. The team agreed that these sessions are good and are improving and should continue. Suggestions were offered for next year:

  • Jordan - How to invest in the Stock Market and another related session

  • Evan - Scholarship information

  • Ruby - Cooking and recipes

  • Peggy and Marlene - Children’s books

  • Fran - Genealogy

  • Jill and Jim Wilson - Maps

  • Ray Wong - Multicultural Education

(I'll add a few other names before I forget... Angelika Pagel on Museums and Art, Zublin on theater and film, what about someone on history sites? team will let Carol know if they have other ideas)

Kathleen Lukken has asked that the Library contribute to Homecoming Week’s promotion of the family by having a class on Untangling the Web on Saturday, Oct. 16th

It was agreed that Saturday sessions were not very well attended this semester. The Tuesday at 1:30 time slot seemed to be agreeable to all, especially if we are trying to get more students to attend.

4. Web Team update - Jill

Jill reported on plans to move the library server back to the Tech Ed building. There are concerns about the availability of help after hours. They have supposedly improved their ability to respond in a timely manner, but the Web Team still has major concerns. The 7777 number is equipped with an answering machine that is to be checked regularly. The last time someone at the library called after hours, the call was not returned until the following morning. This is not acceptable to the library. They will continue to consider the options and will make a decision by the end of the semester.

There was some discussion about doing away with Everybody’s Menu Builder, but there are still issues with security and with WebPac that need to be resolved.

Patrons who tried to get remote access from AOL were not able to do so because of the Explorer software that AOL uses. Chris has put instructions on the remote access site on how to download the Netscape Browser and connect to the proxy server.

5. As may arise - none

Faculty Issues

1. 1999/2000 teaching schedule - Carol

Faculty are interested in promoting, further developing and trying out teaching the Navigator. Joan and Carol had discussed this in the past, if the Info Lit Competency passed we will need more faculty involved in the Navigator as it offers maximum flexibility and choice for students, and quality and content control for us. Both Wade and Ruby have agreed to teach a small section next year so they may have more input on the course to provide to the team. Carol and Art can assist them in getting started. Carol has prepared a new draft schedule based on input from the team.

We discussed fasttrac and decided we still wanted to offer some half semester courses.
