Instruction Team Meeting
Minutes
Thursday February 3, 2000
Room 138 1:30 PM
Attendees: Joan, Carol, Wade, Jill, Ruby, Art, Lonna, Peg, Fran
I. Announcements:
1. Untangling the Web Update - These sessions are very popular. The first two sessions attracted over 45 attendees each, and the 3rd session had 30 attendees. Most are community members. Ruby's session is next.
2. Lanskool update - Lanskool has crashed a few times in 138. If this happens, close and reopen lanskool on the teaching station, if this doesn't work reboot the teaching station and it seems to work fine.
3. Remote Access update - Chris has added some very useful new graphics to the remote access help pages. Even so, Reference and Instruction faculty/staff reported that students and faculty are generally unhappy with the time and effort it takes to set up and use their browsers as proxy servers. It is too much technical detail for the average user and there are often cases where it simply won't work even when the instructions are followed exactly. Everyone seemed to agree t hat we need to find a simpler system for the end user, particularly for distance students. Joan suggested that this be discussed in the next library council.
4. As may arise - Carol has requested a Frontpage 2000 workshop for the Reference and Instruction team members to be held on Thursday March 2 at 1:30 until 3:00 PM. She'll let you know when this is confirmed.
II. Discussion:
1.2010 and FYE feedback (yours, ours and theirs) - Englis 2010's are almost over. Carol distributed the English 2010 feedback we have received. The feedback was generally very good. She has asked for everyone to please mark suggested improvements in the 2010 exercise and general brochure and give them to her ASAP so we may keep track of improvements we want to make for next term. We won't remember next August, so please do this this week!
2. As may arise - Carol is still meeting with UALC team to update navigator and this is going well.
3. College of Business is trying to put through their own computer competency... John Sillitoe will address this at the next executive committee meeting.
4. Faculty saw demo and practiced using the Courseware Construction Kit presented by Alan Livingston.
