Discussion
- ULA would like us to do an instruction poster
for the next conference. Shaun, Fran and Joan have agreed to work on
this. Joan suggested it be a summary of our program.
- Spring workshop? (review
UALC ideas). Carol will contact Lynda Wangsgard to ask her if there
are any training priorities for her staff to get ideas for another Spring
workshop. Carol mentioned Graciela Italiano-Thomas as a possible speaker
on better meeting the needs of Hispanic patrons.
- New instruction/information literacy Web pages
- The team suggested the following links for this page.
- Information Literacy Program
- Information Literacy Requirement
- English 2010 and FYE
- Subject Librarians doing
instruction (listed by department)
- Carol presented a Draft outline of an information
literacy plan for a department and asked team members to send her
feedback on the draft. Joan feels this is an important ongoing activity.
Below is some of the wording from accreditation standards that support
this and other assessment in the library. Carol, Fran and Shaun will
discuss this draft plan with Dave Eisler and Catherine Zublin later in
November. Joan suggested that instruction librarians report back to the
team in the Spring on any progress they have made, she alos commented on
how busy faculty are this year with accreditation. Carol will develop a
Web page linking to any plans that are developed.
- From
Standard 5
- 5.B.4 Opportunities are
provided for faculty, staff, and students to participate in the
planning and development of the library and information resources
and services.
- Library and information resources planning
activities support teaching and learning functions by facilitating
the research and scholarship of students and faculty. Related
evaluation processes regularly assess the quality, accessibility,
and use of libraries and other information resource repositories
and their services to determine the level of effectiveness in
support of the educational program.
5.E.1 The institution has a planning process that involves users,
library and information resource staff, faculty, and
administrators.
- 5.E.3 The institution regularly and
systematically evaluates the quality, adequacy, and utilization of
its library and information resources and services, including
those provided through cooperative arrangements, and at all
locations where courses, programs, or degrees are offered. The
institution uses the results of the evaluations to improve the
effectiveness of these resources.
As May Arise
- Wade will meet with Joan to determine who will be doing
his instruction activities next semester.
