Team will look into organizing a session for WSU staff for spring semester. Lonna has agreed to chair a subcommittee to plan this. Fran has agreed to assist and I think Peggy will too, as she has time, according to her new schedule. Anyone else is invited to join, just let Lonna know. They may feel free to ask any of us to help in any way.
Instruction Planning Assumptions and planning process
We discussed each of the planning assumptions. After a lengthy discussion, Carol's interpretation of the assumptions that were accepted by the team include the following:
1. The need/demand for subject specific and general instruction (English 2010 - FYE, etc.) will continue to increase. Meeting this need is a priority.
2. Internal and external use of the library classrooms will increase. Private funding will be sought to create an additional classroom.
3. Enrollment growth in LS2210 - Internet Navigator - will more than double, requiring additional proctors.
4. An Online section of LS2201 - Library Skills, Resources... will be developed. The possibility of developing an online sections of HU1115 - Humanities on the Internet , and the possibility of developing a face to face version of the Internet Navigator will be assessed.
5. For-credit courses currently offered will continue to be offered. The number of sections offered will be demand-driven.
6. Few new for-credit courses will be developed. There will need to be significant demand and enrollment for any new course developed.
7. Library instruction will be provide for distance learners
8. Using technology effectively to enhance instruction will continue to be emphasized.
9. All library instruction will be systematically assessed, including the use of standardized evaluation forms as needed.
10. Library Instruction team will continue to be involved in in library and off campus professional development activities to continually improve teaching effectiveness and student learning
11. Subject Bibliographers will remain involved in general instruction at approximately 8 to 10 hours a year. Professional staff will continue to assist with general instruction.
12. Instruction team will remain active in the activities and leadership of the Web Team
13. The Instruction team activities will support the activities and planning for subject specific instruction in cooperation with the Collection Management team
14. The Instruction team will work with reference to coordinate reference/instruction activities and human resource planning
Please let Carol know if you feel any of the wording needs to be changed to better reflect your understanding of the discussion and team's vision
As may arise - Jill mentioned she noticed a comment in the friends minutes about cooperative instruction with Ogden Public Library. Instruction team is happy to cooperate as (and if) Friends plans develop.
Faculty Issues
2000/2001 Draft Teaching Schedule/instruction needs - Carol received some input from faculty, a new draft schedule will be sent out next week
Student end of course evaluation form - comments and suggestions on form were made (and have been redistributed, 10/15 version, with comments from students on form)
Instruction Staffing needs - Carol distributed a very rough draft of a possible job description for reference/instruction personnel that she had discussed with Wade. There was a long discussion. In summary, support was expressed both for a full time evening/weekend reference/instruction professional staff and for a 9 month reference/instruction faculty member (as the reference/instruction support included in Ruby's previous faculty position has been lost). Joan said this will be decided in Library Council.
Web Team update - Web Team is still working on Home page redesign.
Information Literacy Competencies Exam Subcommittee - Carol would always like additional questions to add....
Please send corrections or additions to Carol
