PART I: Controlled Vocabulary Searching 1. Using only the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) which is available in the library, state the most relevant primary subject heading you can find on your topic (they are printed in BOLD). State the subject heading exactly as you see it printed in LCSH. 2. From LCSH or handout 5, state the LC classification (call number) letters which most closely fit the above subject heading. 3. Locate ONE item on your topic using the exact LCSH subject heading you found above and the Alphabetical by "Subject Browse" search option. Click on the item's title, and print and attach the page. NOTE: If you get no results, choose a related LCSH subject heading that will be successful. Also, enter two dashes before a subdivision if the subject heading includes subdivisions. PART II: Keyword Searching 1. Locate ONE item on your topic using the "Title Keyword" search option. You must use at least two keywords separated by a Boolean operator in your search statement). Click on the item's title, and print and attach the page. 2. Locate ONE item on your topic using the "General Keyword" search option. You must use truncation on at least one keyword in your search statement but truncate as many words as you can. The truncation character for the library catalog is the asterisk (*).
