Personal
I was born and raised in Mexicali, Mexico where summer days reached 125 degrees in temperature. My friends think that I am crazy for vacationing in Mexicali during the summer, sometimes I agree with them. I enjoy living in Utah, a physically active lifestyle is easy to achieve here. I enjoy taking long hikes on the trails with my wife (Elizabeth) and daughter (Miroslava). I enjoy Greek classic literature and Monday night football. I even competed in an American idol type competition in Mexicali when I was 8 years old. I played volleyball, baseball, softball, basketball and soccer until I was 14. At 14 I found American football and I played it until I was 24. I enjoyed the mental and physical aspects of the game. Now I play racquetball, badminton, golf and mountain bike.

Teaching Philosophy
Physical Education teachers need to be well versed, think critically, be reflective and understand the processes of teaching and learning. I see myself as someone who can encourage and challenge future physical education teachers to understand themselves, their profession and the students they will be teaching. I want students to be aware of the complexities they will be facing when teaching physical education. I believe that a reflective, adaptable, open-minded and knowledge-thirsty teacher can have a great impact on his/her students. My job as a professor, when training future physical educators, is to develop, foster, and encourage those aptitudes.

Professional Focus
My long term research focus is the application of sub-discipline knowledge to teaching physical education. Exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor learning, motor development, and other sub-disciplines are part of the foundational preparation of future physical educators. If we understand how these teachers apply their sub-discipline pedagogical content knowledge, we may be able to develop sub-discipline courses that foster these notions and improve student learning and lifelong activity patterns. Another research interest is childhood obesity causes and intervention program effectiveness on obesity.
