Church of Scientology in Utah

The Church of Scientology of Utah is dedicated to helping others live better lives and bringing greater spiritual awareness to each individual.

Founded on December 28th, 1990, the Church of Scientology of Salt Lake City provides life-improvement courses , spiritual counseling, training in Scientology applied religious philosophy and a chapel where services are held on Sunday mornings.

The founder of the Scientology religion, L. Ron Hubbard, drawing upon the wisdom of philosophies and religions of past ages and his own extensive research into life and the spirit, developed workable tools that anyone can use to gain greater understanding, ability and awareness. An understanding of Scientology principles enables the individual to overcome barriers and problems, improve relationships, and reach out to effectively help others.

THE CREED OF THE CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY

In the Creed of the Church of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, expressed the most basic beliefs of the religion, including its view of the nature of man and salvation, specifically:

That man is basically good;
That he is seeking to survive;
That his survival depends upon himself
and upon his fellows
and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.

The creed also expresses the religion's commitment to human rights, expressing the belief:

That all men of whatever race, color, or creed
were created with equal rights

One way in which Scientologists work to guarantee these rights is through the Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a Church-sponsored social reform organization formed in 1969 to expose and eradicate criminal acts and human rights abuses by psychiatry. Through CCHR's achievements since that time, thousands of psychiatric victims have been rescued and have regained legal and civil rights.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Reaching out to the community with help for individuals of all religions and creeds is another hallmark of the Scientology religion .

DRUG FREE MARSHALS

The Church of Scientology International created and launched the Drug-Free Marshals youth drug-education and prevention program in 1993, a program to educate children as young as 6 on the dangers of drugs, and to challenge them to remain drug-free. They demonstrate their commitment by being "sworn in" as Drug-Free Marshals, pledging to remain drug-free and to encourage their peers to do the same.

The program,empowers children to make their own decisions about living a healthy and happy drug-free lives.

Scientology Volunteer Ministers

In 1976, in an article entitled "Religious Influence in Society," L. Ron Hubbard wrote:

"An early 20th century philosopher spoke of the impending decline of the West.
What he failed to predict was that the West would export its culture to the rest of
the world and thus grip the entire world in its death throes."

"Probably the most critical point of attack on a culture is its religious experience.
Where one can destroy or undermine religious institutions then the entire fabric
of the society can be quickly subverted or brought to ruin."

He went on to offer a solution to this cultural decline:

"If one does not like the crime, cruelty, injustice and violence of this society, he can
do something about it. He can become a VOLUNTEER MINISTER and help civilize it,
bring it conscience and kindness and love and freedom from travail by
instilling into it trust, decency, honesty and tolerance.

"…A Volunteer Minister is a person who helps his fellow man on a volunteer basis
by restoring purpose, truth and spiritual values to the lives of others."

The Volunteer Ministers of the Church of Scientology of Utah welcome to their ranks men and women of goodwill of any faith. The Church offers courses in the simple techniques found in the Scientology Handbook to help Utahans improve relationships, overcome drug and alcohol abuse, study difficulties and stress, and improve life in many other ways. The effectiveness of these techniques explains why the Scientology Volunteer Ministers have adopted the motto, "Something can be done about it."

Attorney General Mark L. Shurtleff, in helping to award winners of the Drug Free Marshals' poster conference, said "I want to thank you for all the Church of Scientology is doing to protect our children and help them make the right choices in the future."

Scientology Volunteer Ministers of Salt Lake City provide free services and training. All who visit this bright yellow tent learn that "something CAN be done about it."
